Greetings, readers. In a conversation with T Bone Burnett in 2010 (he had just produced Leon Russell’s comeback album with Elton John, The Union), we talked about the early promise of the internet, and he said, “They promised us jetpacks, and they gave us apps.”
Substack has introduced an app. You can now read Critical Conditions by Wayne Robins in the new Substack app for iPhone and iPad.
The folks at Substack say, “With the app, you’ll have a dedicated Inbox for my Substack and any others you subscribe to. New posts will never get lost in your email filters, or stuck in spam. Longer posts will never cut-off by your email app. Comments and rich media will all work seamlessly. Overall, it’s a big upgrade to the reading experience.”
The Substack app is currently available for iOS. If you don’t have an Apple device, you can join the Android waitlist here. I am most grateful for the 100 new subscribers that have signed up in the 48 hours since the app has been announced.
So that’s the great news. I would like to thank Ted Gioia, who writes The Honest Broker Substack, for recommending Critical Conditions by Wayne Robins in his app announcement. Ted and I did a kind of crossover set of posts last summer:
I also pay to subscribe my fellow veteran of the counter-culture wars at the Village Voice, Lucian Truscott IV, whose newsletter is essential for daily updates on Russia’s war against The Ukraine; E. Jean Carroll’s Ask E. Jean; Sari Botton’s ageless Oldster magazine; and others that should show up on the homepage as soon as I work out the kinks with the delivery system. A new real post will follow later today or early tomorrow, I promise.
