Thanks for posting this. Radio gradually has become so homogenized that it's been tough to find stations in markets with playlists featuring eclectic, fun mixes. And any show that opens with Rank and File gets my vote. Incidentally, I have a bootleg of an X show on WLIR from 1983 featuring their original lineup. Great gig.
This article brought back some interesting memories of my own…writing an article about WLIR’s tiny studio and its workings (I visited) & priding myself on some obscure tunes that you have mentioned. I’m afraid these days will never come back again and that is why your musings are so vital to those of us who remember!
